Meg Cabot, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Princess Diaries, returns to Little Bridge Island with a new story about a children's book author with a case of writer's block and an arrogant novelist who have to set aside their differences as they get through a weekend long book festival that just might change everythingâ??including their feelings for each other.

Don't Judge a Book by Its Author...

Welcome to Little Bridge, one of the smallest, most beautiful islands in the Florida Keys.

Jo Wright always swore she'd never step foot on Little Bridge Islandâ??not as long as her nemesis, bestselling author Will Price, is living there.

Then Jo's given an offer she can't refuse: an all-expense paid trip to speak and sign at the island's first ever book festival.

Even though arrogant Will is the last person Jo wants to see, she could really use the festival's more-than-generous speaking fee. She's suffering from a crippling case of writer's block on the next installment of her bestselling children's series, and her father needs financial help as well.

Then Jo hears that Will is off-island on the set of the film of his next book. Hallelujah!

But when she arrives on Little Bridge, Jo is in for a shock: Will is not only at the book festival, but seems genuinely sorry for his past actionsâ??and more than willing not only to make amends, but prove to Jo that he's a changed man.

Things seem to be looking upâ??until disaster strikes, causing Jo to wonder: Do any of us ever really know… (mehr)

Jo Wright is a well-known children's author but she's been blocked for the past year, ever since massively popular author, Will Price, bad-mouthed her books and writing to the NYT. When Jo is invited to the first literary festival held by the Little Bridge Public Library, and offered a massive appearance fee, she agrees to go. What she doesn't expect is that Will Price will be there too or that they'll have to spend so much time together. On the one hand, Jo might finally get the chance to give him a piece of her mind about his quote but on the other, he keeps being distractingly good looking every time she turns around...

This is by far my favourite of the Little Bridge Island books. Jo is a delightful protagonist and while she peppers things with a few too many silly cat references (her children's series focus on anthropomorphic teen cat), she largely feels realistic. Her hate to love romance with Will Price (who definitely has some Nicholas Sparks-esque writing tendencies), is sweet and watching both of them overcome their own baggage and flaws is highly enjoyable. Cabot also crafts a lovely cast of characters with the other writers attending the festival who add plenty of humour to the general goings on. Also, if you happen to read this in the depths of a cold week in January like I did, it might give you the urge to go on a warm weather vacation. Recommended. ( )

Meg Cabot is one of my favourite authors ever and maybe it's time to reread Princess Diaries again. This was delightful and adorable--I love the fans and Kitty Katz. But of course there was instalove that could have been solved a little with that earlier interaction--but seriously, even though he's rich, paying her 8.5k more than everyone else? ( )

If I had read one more cat-related pun or exclamation (such as "purr-fect" or "what the whiskers?"), I'm not sure I could be held accountable for my actions. Ugh.

Also, I feel like Meg Cabot was calling out her fans who first fell in love with The Princess Diaries as young tweens and teens and are now adults (hey, that's me!) I still enjoy the series today, but I like to think that I'm also still invested in her adult books too - even if they don't always hit the right notes for me. And yeah, I'm knocking this book a bit on Goodreads - just as Bernadette warned Jo would happen if Kitty broke up with Rex. So there. ( )

Little Bridge Island, Book 3

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

The Characters:

Will Price:
Jo Wright:
Various Authors, Book Festival Attendees, Citizens of Little Bridge Island

The Story:

Will is super awkward but the longing he feels for Jo is palpable. I’m not sure I bought into her feelings being as strong where he’s concerned but there was a great deal of passion between the two. I didn’t bond as much with these main characters which is always a bummer for me but I did love some of the secondary characters. I thought the villainous character was a real jackhole and his antics were so annoying. I loved the book within a book part, in fact, I think I’d like to read that book.
