I'd spent my entire life feeling like I couldn't breathe. Like I was unfit to even exist in a world controlled by elemental magic, as the only one without a single drop coursing through my veins. I was a magical dud, a misfit thrown into an orphanage by my parents as a baby and forced to work a dead end job at a magical coffee shop just to get by.  In a place where everyone was extraordinary I had come to terms with being ordinary. Until my twentieth birthday when my life went up in flames- literally. But when my best friend is captured by a fire wielding psychopath who also turns out to be my fated mate I realize that there is no limit to how much of a hot mess my life can be.  Great. Secrets about my past are uncovered and I find out I'm an eden, a mage with an affinity for all four elements.  Only an eden can unite all of the elemental mages and unite the country against upheaval.  I was prepared to master the four elements, but I wasn't prepared to fall for the three hot elemental princes who were tasked with helping me save the world.  No pressure, right? … (mehr)

2.5 stars.

This was a pretty typical reverse harem read and I did have an okay time reading this. It is very fast paced and easy to read. I was just never able to develop any specific attachment to any of the characters or really care about the romance.

The plot is kind of meandering for such a short book. We find out pretty early that Eden can control all four elements in this society where people have control of only one and all live in closed communities. Eden then has to go wake up these guys that are each going to help her control one element. This set up is fine but I wanted to feel a greater connection. Eden is also trying to find her friend Jade who was kidnapped early on. This causes a sort of common problem where as the reader I have barely spent any time with Jade so I don't really care about her. This really lessened the impact of that story line.

There isn't a ton of romance in this first book, which is what I expected so that was fine. We do get one sex scene. I didn't love it because it was very short and felt a bit rote. It just was not sexy or anything to me and they don't use a condom or mention any birth control, which is a big no for me. I hope that the romance side will increase in later books and the sex scenes will improve.

I would consider continuing on with this series even though I didn't love this first book because they are fun and easy reads. I did still have a fine time reading this, it's just pretty average and my rating reflects that. ( )

W O W! This book pulled me in so fast I had to read it in one sitting!!! Wonderful character development and world building. What happens when a girl who grew up alone and torn down her entire life discovers there is a lot more to who/what she is? Take the ride and watch as Eden begins her journey of discovery and internal power. Who are friends and who are foe? This adventure has a few twists and turns, but is filled with action, suspense and intrigue...and maybe a few hot guys along the way ( )
