Dorothy’s husband Alan is a member of a committee organized to choose a new Dean for their Church of England diocese, but when one of the four finalists in the search is found murdered in his cathedral, the appointments committee must take a back seat to the investigation into his murder. That is a matter for the police, but it wouldn’t hurt for Dorothy and Alan, along with a few of their friends, to look into the backgrounds of the four finalists being considered, to determine if the death was somehow related to the appointment process. Of course, that is before there is a second suspicious death, along with a heap of rumour and hearsay about each of the individual church leaders…. I enjoy this fairly slight series, but this was not among my favourites, largely because there’s a great deal of pious Christian narrative running throughout. Not surprising, given the plot, and the series has always made note of Dorothy’s Christian beliefs, but there was a bit more of it than a pagan like me can stomach. If later books in the series continue in this expanded vein, I will probably stop reading it; as it is, only a very mild recommendation this time around. ( ) Sherebury is in search of a new Bishop. Alan is on the search committee. One of the candidates turns up dead. Dorothy, of course, feels the need to investigate. This is approached by visiting the parishes of the remaining candidates and conducting informal interviews with them. They turn up some irregularities, bring others into the investigation, and eventually solve the crime. I was excited to see that Dams was returning the series to Sherebury although a great deal of the action takes place in other locations throughout England. I was disappointed in the mystery itself. This series has just not been the same since Alan retired from the police force. This is probably the last installment I will read even if the series continues. The last three installments have not been worth reading. It's time to move on. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
