"A woman looking for a new lease on life moves to Arizona where she rents a guest house on a gorgeous property with a mysterious owner-a man who teaches her about resilience, courage, and ultimately true love, in this funny, bighearted novel about hope and healing. Stuck in a dreary Boston winter, Annabelle Martin would like nothing more than to run away from her current life. She's not even thirty years old, twice-divorced, and has just dodged a marriage proposal... from her ex-husband. When she's offered her dream job as creative director at a cutting-edge graphic design studio in Phoenix, she jumps at the opportunity to start over. When she arrives in the Valley of the Sun, Annabelle is instantly intrigued by her anonymous landlord. Based on the cranky, handwritten notes Nick Daire leaves her, she assumes he is an old, rich curmudgeon. Annabelle is shocked when she finally meets Nick and discovers that he's her age and uses a wheelchair. Nick suffered from a stroke a year ago, and while there's no physical reason for him not to recover, he is struggling to overcome the paralyzing fear that has kept him a prisoner in his own home. Despite her promise to herself not to get involved, Annabelle finds herself irresistibly drawn to Nick. And soon she wonders if she and Nick might help each other find the courage to embrace life, happiness, and true love"--… (mehr)

While this is a story that takes place in the heat of the Phoenix desert, things did not heat up in any way. In fact, it was a major cool down, starting out as a four and then deteriorating with vapid dialogue, a predictable plot, and dual character perspectives that sounded like a singular person instead of two unique voices. I had high hopes for a sizzling summer read, but, in the end, I was left dehydrated, thirsting for much more than I got. ( )

Better than the prior book in the series. However, an issue with this author is a desire to juggle too many plot points- some are overdone and others get shorted. Some even appear out of nowhere and just waste a few pages. Items get resolved too simply. ( )

Story about a woman who gets her dream job working for her best friend. Job is somewhat sabotaged by a coworker who wanted the job himself. Falls in love with man who is in a wheelchair. Can't remember how it ends.

Do you know what my favorite thing about Grumpy x Sunshine trope is ?
It's watching the grinch slowly give in and accept that the world isn't so bad after all.

Wait For It by Jenn McKinlay satisfied my Grumpy x Sunshine craving. With vibrant characters and a cliche plot, the book held my attention for a respectable amount of time.

Unfortunately, there was barely any Grinch giving in scenes and it wasnt anything too new or unique.

Nevertheless a fun read for when you want something light ! ( )

Twice-wed [and twice-divorced] Annabelle Martin needs nothing more than a change in her life. So, after the debacle surrounding her ex-husband’s unexpected proposal, Annabelle is desperate for something new. When she’s offered her dream job . . . creative director at Vasquez Squared, a graphic design studio . . . she decides to give up her freelance graphic work and move from Boston to Phoenix. The business owners . . . her best friend, Sophie Vasquez, and her husband, Miguel . . . have even arranged a place for her to rent for six months.

As a favor to Miguel, retiree Nick Daire is reluctantly renting Annabelle the guest house on his estate. Given to communicating with her through snarky notes, he remains aloof; Annabelle is determined to meet her reclusive landlord. She believes him to be an elderly curmudgeon; in truth, Nick is in his thirties and struggling to recover from a stroke he suffered a year ago.

When Annabelle and Nick finally meet, they find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other. But will they allow their fears to keep them from the life they might find together?

=========

This charming story of courage, compassion, and fortitude pulls readers into the telling of the tale from the outset while unexpected plot revelations keep the pages turning. Alternating points of view provide the necessary backstory as they clue readers into the strengths and weaknesses of the two central characters who find themselves facing unexpected situations.

Populated by relatable, nuanced characters, this delightful tale brings together a quirky woman with a healthy dose of spunk and a grumpy, withdrawn man struggling to recover his health. Nick struggles as the doctors can find no medical issues complicating his recovery; Annabelle faces a misogynistic co-worker determined to prove her unworthy of the position he believes he deserves.

Determination and the overcoming of obstacles play an integral role in the telling of this clever story. At its heart, both Nick and Annabelle must find a way to deal with grief, loss, and personal negativity. Touching on fears, family dynamics, health issues, the loss of a loved one, and abusive co-workers, it’s a story of making peace with the past and moving forward, of embracing the possibilities with positive expectations. It’s a story of friendship and loyalty and love.

This heartwarming romance is sure to elicit smiles from readers as Annabelle and Nick find that the strength within themselves and with each other may lead to their own happily ever after.

Highly recommended. ( )
