This book shows everybody that says if I could go back and do it again I would do things differently. I wish this book was true. I really enjoyed the bookDiese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in return for an honest review.Joseph Vance has a gift that has been passed down in his family for generations. All the first-born child in his family have the ability to transport people back in time for a do-over of a wrong decision they made. His family calls it making a Correction. But after one Correction costs Joseph his family he has to make a choice, one that will determine the future of Corrections. This book sucks the reader in from the very beginning. It tells the history of the Vance family up to the present day. I did find the second half to drag a bit but overall it was a compelling and enjoyable story. I enjoyed the exploration of the “rules” surrounding correcting those with children, self-corrections, and personal gain, but struggled with later parts of the story when abstaining from certain self-corrections seemed to go against the protagonists’ own nature. Something was just missing there for me. As an ARC, this story could use a good edit to trim it down a bit and certainly to work on the dialogue from older centuries that read as far too modern, but otherwise it was a fun read. At first, I thought the book was fine, it had an interesting concept but the prose was very simple and the plot a bit boring. Then, I got to the part where it started talking about slavery, and I feel that part was so poorly handled and honestly felt a bit racist to me, and I could no longer go on reading. Overall, I would not recommend. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This is an adorable story, but I must say it’s a bit like an Oreo. The middle part of the story - excellent. Easy to read. Engaging. Text painting all over the place. This would make an excellent movie. That being said, the beginning was a little muddy, a little editing needed to really grab the reader. Personally I don’t think we need any parts from history. And the end? It just kinda flat…. Not that the story isn’t good, but it’s anticlimactic. Does the children get it? Do his grandkids learn about the corrections? I just wish it was a more wrapped up ending. I would pay $100 to see this in theaters; I vote Zach Braff for Vance at some stage.
This was a nice story about second chances. The writing was nice and I enjoyed getting sucked in to the story as it was being told with anecdotes throughout the centuries. The gift of corrections would be a terrifying power to have in some ways, as you don't exactly know what all the consequences might be. But the "self-correction" certainly made the stakes lower. I do wish that hadn't been an option. (And I don't understand why Sally didn't use it in one special instance, but .....) Overall, it was a nice, feel good story. I do think that there were some editing mistakes that should be corrected. Hopefully they will be fixed in a future edition. Note: I received a complimentary review copy of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review.
It's human nature to make mistakes. We learn and grow because of them. What we can't do is go back in time to correct a mistake-that is unless we meet Joseph Vance or his family. When Joe performs Corrections-a gift passed down generation to generation over eight hundred years-people are transported back for a do-over of a wrong decision they made. As a result, lives are changed, usually for the better. But after one Correction goes terribly wrong, Joseph loses what is most dear to him. He must then make a choice, one which will determine whether he will be redeemed or consigned to a life of despair. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
