Strangers' Kingdom is a quick, easy, small-town murder mystery read. The premise of big-city cop with a troubled past is a bit cliche and the mystery itself is not that hard to solve, however I still found that it was an ejoyable read.Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This review was written for LibraryThing Early ReviewersAlbany, New York Detective Luke Campbell is forced to resign following his self-defense shooting of the son of a politically powerful state senator. Now divorced and depressed, Luke is groping for some direction forward. He receives an invitation to interview for a position as a detective in small-town Granton, Vermont. After a brief interview, the police chief hires Luke as the lone detective on the eight-man force. Granton is a peaceful, relatively trouble-free town where speeders are the primary problem. Yet within hours, Luke fights a town resident to defend a recently released convict, develops an attraction to an enigmatic, emotionally distant woman, and begins an investigation of what will turn out to be a series of murders. The Chief suggests they are suicides. Luke disagrees, but this job is his last chance to save his career in law enforcement, and he cannot afford to irritate his boss. Strangers’ Paradise is a quick, easy read. Readers will realize at the outset that a serial killer is at work and that Luke will fall in love with the emotionally guarded woman. Most readers will identify the killer rather quickly. Barrows fails to develop a cohort of plausible suspects. Instead, he provides clues that point to a single individual. Nevertheless, mysteries remain. What is the killer’s motive? Will Luke be able to convince his skeptical Chief that a serial murderer is at work? What form will the final confrontation between Luke and the killer take? And will Luke be able to get the mysterious woman to abandon the safety and comfort of her protective shell and open her heart to him? These questions, and the interesting characters kept me reading Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. A traumatic event makes police detective, Luke Campbell leave Albany and take a job in a small town in Vermont. Granton is a quiet place but a body turns up on his first day and Luke must solve the case. This is a good story of a small town police department with a chief who seems to rule over all. There is a sweet romance between Luke and Chloe. There is little action and no heart-pounding moments but a story with a few winding roads to a satisfying conclusion Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Politically blacklisted detective Luke Campbell's last chance in law-enforcement is a job with the police department of rural Granton, Vermont. It's a beautiful town, home to a beautiful, intriguing girl who's caught his eye, and it's a chance at redemption. Even if his new boss seems strange, secretive, and vaguely sinister, Campbell is willing to give this opportunity a shot. And no sooner does he make that decision than the first in a series of murders is discovered, starting a chain of events that will change the lives of everyone in this once-quiet town.
