Alexa moves from Chicago to Savannah to live with her grandfather after her parents are convicted of wire fraud. She instantly becomes a target of the "mean girls" at her new school and is thankful to find a quirky new bunch of girls willing to accept her. Things quickly become complicated, though, as she finds that she has feelings for one of her new friends and also for a boy on the football team. Additionally, her new friends may not be as friendly as they seem! The entire town is in for trouble. A color palette of purples with shades of white, tan, and black enhance the eerie mood—especially the purple-hued eyes of beguiled. As the guide book warns, beguilement is "a fairies greatest weapon." You've been forewarned. I was lucky to receive an eARC of "Nightmare in Savannah" thanks to the publisher and NetGalley. Regardless, I would like to emphasize that, while I received the eARC, this is my honest opinion regarding the graphic novel. "Nightmare in Savannah" is a graphic novel that belongs to the genre of Urban Fantasy. Thus, it depicts America - as we, as readers, know it - in combination with the coexistence of a Faerie world unknown to the general public. The story is reminiscent of high school horror movies, as it focuses on four high schoolers and discusses themes such as romance, bullying, revenge, grief, and trauma. On a personal note, I loved the pop culture references, such as to the legendary "Mean Girls" throughout the graphic novel! Furthermore, I love the art style and color palette of the story! The art style is unique but not overly detailed. Nonetheless, the artist can convey emotions and atmosphere efficiently. I am sure that the sketchy art style will appeal to some readers, while for others, it will not be as appealing. I, however, belong to the former. In my personal opinion, the illustration style adds a unique touch to the story. I subtract one star from the rating since the story moves - in my personal opinion - too rapidly. I will acknowledge that the pages of this standalone are limited, but the jumps from one scene to the next and the resulting actions and events were too fast for my liking. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this graphic novel and recommended it to anyone who likes graphic novels, YA, Urban Fantasy, and short reads. I will one hundred percent reread this book during the spooky months! Zeige 5 von 5 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
High school student Alexa Bowman moved to Savannah, Georgia to get away from her old life. Too bad her past is a Google search away and her family's criminal past quickly made her an outcast. From tormenting cheerleaders to dreamy football players, Alexa can't keep up, especially when Fae, Skye, and Chloe take her into their group of outsiders. But after a night in the woods, a power has awakened within them, a power that's equal parts magical and terrifying. But there are no coincidences in Savannah, and once they find out how to control their powers the town is in for a rude awakening. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

The illustrations weren't my favourite style, but they work with the story. It's just a personal preference or taste of mine that it conflicts with, nothing more.
Three out of five stars.
