I really enjoyed this book! It takes place in France, a place I've longed to visit.
Simone has recently lost her great grandmother. She finds a letter alluding to the fact that she left a treasure in France. Simone decides to travel to France despite her fear of flying. On her flight she meets Kyle, a clockmaker. They strike up a friendship. Through a twist in fate Simones great aunt owns a clock factory and Kyle is there. They find the treasure and Simone is reunited with her family. She later marries Kyle. A great read! ( )

This is one of those feel-good holiday novels. To me, it has a Hallmark movie feel to it. By about halfway through the book, I knew what the ending was going to be (well, at least in part).

I would say you have to be in the mood to suspend disbelief for the beginning of this novel. While cleaning out her grandmother's house, Simone finds a letter addressed to her from her great-grandmother which claims that a treasure was left in Avec, France years ago and asks Simone to go find it. In short order, Simone finishes packing up her grandmother's house, sells the house (giving her the money to take a trip and be "jobless" for a short while), and finds herself on flights heading to France.

But what is real treasure? Is it jewels or riches? Is it family connections? Is it doing something you love? Is it finding true love? Is it helping to preserve something you love? Is it some combination of any or all of these? ( )

I have read several of Melody Carlson's books and found them to be very enjoyable. My favorites, though, are always her Christmas tales. Every year, I eagerly anticipate and can't wait to read them. A Christmas in the Alps did not let me down!

Every component—from the mysterious letter to the hasty choice to fly to France, from the enigmatic Kyle to the clockmaker factory—built upon the others and helped to create a beautiful, suspenseful story that had me fascinated and hooked from the start.

The French Alps provided the ideal backdrop for Christmas. I could almost physically feel the cold, see the icy landscapes, and imagine the breathtaking views.

The faith component was understated and subtle. However, it complemented the story well.

A Christmas in the Alps is a novella which makes it the ideal book for a quick read when you are feeling nostalgic for Christmas, or during the holiday season.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I am voluntarily leaving this review. ( )

Well written, if a bit predictable. The characters are charming and the setting cozy. Perfect for a short Christmas read with enough mystery and romance to keep the pages turning. ( )

I enjoy reading Melody Carlson's Christmas books every year - and this year was no exception! A Christmas in the Alps is her Christmas novella for this year. It is a sweet story, set in the French Alps. There is a little mystery – a little romance – and a little family drama. Altogether, a nice story for the Christmas season! ( )
