Wraps up a number of characters and plot lines that were left open. I noticed there is another book out in this series, a prequel, I kind of hope the author plans to wrap this series up. Otherwise it could become as ridiculous and the Dave Robicheaux series by James Lee Burke. A Book of Bones is a huge story, spanning centuries and continents. A large cast of characters, both living, dead, and somewhere in between populate this very ambitious novel. Charlie Parker and his right and left hand men (I will place Angel on the right and Louis on the side sinister) are present and perform true to form, but share the stage with many others. I really enjoyed it. Savored it. Took my time with it. It is that type of book---or at least it was for me. It recalled scenes all the way back from the first novel and explained the origin of my personal favorite villain of the whole series. I won't disclose who it is because I HATE spoilers of any type. As with prior installments, one really needs to read this series in order to get anything close to the full effect. You just can't appreciate the connections between the characters and why certain actions are significant. At least I wouldn't be able to do so. This series is so solid. Every installment is fantastic. My Thoughts: As usual, Jeff Harding's narration is wonderful! The only thing is, he didn't get the Welsh accent right like Kobna Holdbrook-Smith did in Rivers of London. Another thing I like about this book is that I get my dose of Sam!! My favouritest character in the whole bunch! I went to St. Mary's Church in Fairford to see if there really are certain coloured glass panes there that the book mentioned... yeah, curiosity killed the cat! And yes, there is that infamous paned glass. And here is the picture I took of it. I didn't feel any vibes, devine good nor evil, though. Maybe I'm just too thick or not sensitive enough... However the St. Mary's church with Odda's chapel close to it is not the same church as the St. Mary's church in Fairford. St. Mary's Church of Deerhurst's roof finialThat church is about an hour away, the St. Mary's Deerhurst church. And yes, Odda's Chapel does exist too. Both churches are steeped in history. That is probably why I find this series so wonderful a read because John Connolly seamlessly weaves fact and fiction into a tapestry so real I could live in it! Kudos to the author!! The actual history is boring, I much prefer John Connolly's version. Both St. Mary's church in Deerhurst and the St. Mary's church in Fairford have roof finials which are distinctly not christian, so the author's musings about what those stone carvings are doing in a christian church is quite valid. Gehört zur ReiheCharlie Parker (17)
He is our best hope. He is our last hope. On lonely moor in the northeast of England, the body of a young woman is discovered near the site of a vanished church. In the south, a girl lies buried beneath a Saxon mound. To the southeast, the ruins of a priory hide a human skull. Each is a sacrifice, a summons. And something in the darkness has heard the call. But another is coming: Parker the hunter, the avenger. From the forests of Maine to the deserts of the Mexican border, from the canals of Amsterdam to the streets of London, he will track those who would cast this world into darkness. Parker fears no evil. But evil fears him. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

I also think that the police characters in this should get their own books. ( )
