"Serge A. Storms and his permanently baked sidekick, Coleman, have decided to pump the brakes and live on island time. After years of manic road tripping across their beloved Sunshine State, the irrepressible anti-heroes drop anchor in the Florida Keys. They settle down in Pelican Bay, a thriving condo complex with scenic views and friendly neighbors. But the community is at war with investors who are buying up units and leasing them to young vacationers who party at all hours. With their little slice of heaven on the line, Serge takes it upon himself to convince the tourists to move on and quickly becomes a local favorite. Meanwhile, the island chain's long and rich smuggling heritage is causing mayhem-a gang war erupts when a local drug lord passes the family business to his young, enterprising son, and the sun-loving residents are suddenly dodging bullets. Luckily, Florida's most lovable serial killer is there to help!"--… (mehr)

Serge, and by extension, Coleman, decide to slow down in the Florida Keys, aka Operation Pump the Brakes. Of course while absorbing the flavor of the keys Serge gets involved with, and alters, the lives of others. He and Coleman move into a vintage 1970s condo where they befriend retirees and in the process avenge victims of “surprise medical billing” and help evict an off-the-rails renter.

He also meets Julie, who is taking care of her retired fishing guide father while volunteering with childhood cancer victims. A confluence of Serge, Julie, a Colombian drug lord, a group of killer thieves, and the local deputy results in the bulk of the excitement and a satisfying conclusion. Another solid entry into the Serge and Coleman chronicles. ( )

I think it is time to face facts, this series ran out of steam many books ago.
Yes it is fun to learn about Florida- history, random interesting places, etc. but there hasn’t been a solid storyline in a lot of these books.
I like the characters and I like the author but it would be nice to see if he could craft an actual story with someone other than Serge and Colman.
Not sure I can slog through another manic fest with nearly zero storyline. ( )

Never did I ever believe Serge and Coleman would successfully settle down to condo life in southern Florida. I absolutely loved the last "word" of the book. So very appropriate for these difficult times. Thank you, Tim Dorsey, for another great adventure! ( )

This is my favorite in the series. Instead of focusing so extensively on Serge's acts of retribution, this one finds Serge becoming part of a retirement community and helping disabled children. ( )

All the Serge books by Tim Dorsey follow a pattern - some weird odd Florida facts and Serge kills several people in unique ways. This book didn't really deliver on either. Instead we have Serge and Coleman at the end of the book involved in a big shootout like we've entered an action movie. Will I read another Dorsey book - sure, but hope it gets back on track. ( )
