What was supposed to a weekend retreat for three couples turns into a ladies only weekend when the husbands all bow out for different reasons. Dark Fell Barn is located in a remote region without cell service, phones, or an easy way to leave, and the ladies are mostly isolated. A surprise gift and letter awaits them, and warns them that by the time they read the letter, one of their husbands will be dead. They can’t decide if it’s a bad joke or a real threat. A fourth member of this little group didn’t come to the party because of the recent death of her husband, and she may be the one behind this note. But no one knows for sure. All they know is that secrets are being kept, that their loved ones may be in danger, and they have no way to warn them. This well written thriller will keep readers flipping those pages, even faster as the book winds down. A couple of plot points are not explained well, but they are minor, and in the heat of the suspense, not really worth expanding on. The characters are well defined, and the plot well done with good tension throughout. This book is mainly set in an old cut off Barn in the North of England. 3 Friends go there for a get away from all weekend the Husbands are meant to come next day. They receive a horrible letter Saying one of their Husbands will be dead this time tomorrow. Then this books gets very silly, back and forth I really wanted to like this book but I didnt care for any of the characters or who was going to kill who. Its far to long winded for my liking and very far fetched. Not for me keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
In this pulse-pounding thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of The Nanny, a group of women travel to the most remote place in England for a weekend escape, only to discover a startling note that one of their husbands will be killed before they return home-perfect for fans of Ruth Ware and Lucy Foley. Three couples Two bodies. One secret. Dark Fell Barn is a "perfectly isolated" retreat, or so says its website when Jayne books a reservation for her friends. A quiet place, far removed from the rest of the world, is exactly what they need. The women arrive for a girls' night ahead of their husbands. There's ex-Army Jayne, hardened and serious, but also damaged. Ruth, the driven doctor and new mother, who is battling demons of her own. Young Emily, just wed and insecure, the newest addition of this tight-knit band. Missing this year is Edie, who was the glue holding them together, until her husband died suddenly. But what they hoped would be a relaxing break soon turns to horror. Upon arrival at Dark Fell Barn, the women find a devastating note claiming one of their husbands will be murdered. There are no phones, no cell service to check on their men. Friendships fracture as the situation spins wildly out of control. Betrayal can come in many forms. This group has kept each other's secrets for far too long. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Thank you to the author and William Morrow for the chance to read the Advance Reader's Edition of this book.
Three couples have planned a long weekend away at a remote barn in the countryside. At the last minute, the arrival of the husbands are all delayed so the wives go out on their own. When they arrive, the owners drive them up to the barn and inform them that a package had been delivered and left at the barn for them. They each think it's a surprise from their husband. When they get there, the package contains a bottle of champagne and a letter from another friend whose husband had recently passed away. The letter states that she didn't join because she's "not welcome" and that by the time they read the letter, she will have "killed" one of their husbands.
This is how the long weekend starts. The letter sends them all into their own downward spiral, each worrying about their respective husbands. There is no cell signal at the barn and a storm is rolling in. One of them decides to venture out into the storm on her own, another gets black-out drunk and the third tries to go out and find the other woman.
Throw in secrets that they all have hidden from each other and you have a proper whodunit. Twisty and told in alternating POVs, I found that I didn't want to stop reading. ( )
