"Dr. Demarr" is a hard one to figure out - Theroux must have eaten a lot of cheese before bed to have thought of a crime story involving a midget doctor and drugs trafficing.

At the start, the characters are difficult to get to grips with - it's hard to place yourself figuratively in the shoes of such odd personalities. But stick with it - the book is short and so deeply disturbing by the end that the story will stay with you for a lot longer than you would expect. ( )
