One of the greatest challenges for Catholic moral theology today is in the area of sexual and medical ethics. These ethics are of great importance to many individuals and for society itself, and are the object of much debate and disagreement. Moreover, contemporary interest in these issues has brought to the surface a dissatisfaction with the traditional manualistic approach of catholic moral theology and has brought into question the credibility of the Church as a moral teacher. With these factors in mind, Charles E. Curran addresses a number of the current issues in sexual and medical ethics, in this collection of previously published essays. In a section on sexual morality, the author considers marriage and divorce and then analyzes the "Declaration of Sexual Ethics" issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. In his treatment of medical ethics, Father Curran presents a historical overview of medical ethics and takes a detailed look at two recent problems--human experimentation and genetics.
