Le Seuil. — Norman Cousins est connu dans le monde entier comme “ l’homme qui réussit à guérir d’une maladie mortelle à force de rire ” : explication sans doute un peu simplifiée de ce qui lui arriva quand, dans les années 60, cet Américain atteint d’un terrible mal, sorte de sclérose en plaque rapide, et à qui les médecins venaient d’apprendre qu’il n’en avait plus que quelques mois, décida de se soumettre à une “ cure intensive de rire ”(notamment en allant voir des films drôles) et qui, contre toute attente, réussit en effet à éliminer sa maladie. Depûis, l’idée que l’on puisse guérir d’un mal très grave en changeant de vision du monde et d’état d’esprit est devenue courante. À vrai dire, beaucoup de thérapeutes, aujourd’hui encore, admettent difficilement que l’être humain ne soit pas considéré comme une “ machine biologique ” et que l’humeur et la conscience puissent avoir une importance décisive sur la chair et les os. Cela dit les découvertes en PNI (psycho-neuro-immunology) ont été tels depuis quarante ans, que la médecine se trouve désormais obligée de complètement revoir sa copie. Vous avez pouvoir de vie sur vous-même et votre meilleur outil est votre capacité à vous fendre la poire. Les livres de Cousins sont actuellement épuisés en France. Espérons qu’un éditeur les republiera bientôt...
