Journey Across A Killing Ground. . .

Frank Morgan survived his first trip to Alaska. Barely. Now, in Western Canada, Morgan and a band of survivors encounter an arch enemy with a fortune in ill-gotten gains--money he'll use to supply murderous Metis rebels with stolen U.S. Army Gatling guns to use for a bloodbath--and the Last Gunfighter is now in their way. But before the rebels can kill him, a daring U.S. secret agent joins his side. In a harsh and untamed land, Frank Morgan will soon face the ultimate battle for survival--before an all-out civil war explodes.

Title: Dead Before Sundown (The Last Gunfighter #22)
Author: William W Johnstone
Pages: 321
Year: 2011
Publisher: Pinnacle Books
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
Previously, Frank, Salty and Meg were in Skagway, Alaska, taking care of some brides to deliver where they also faced the notorious Soapy Smith and other gang members. Now, the trio are making their way across the Canadian wilderness on the trail of Jim Palmer, who stole money from Salty. As the trio traverses some rough country, they come across some folks who are heading for a rendezvous for nefarious purposes. One group is carrying gold, one has four Gatling guns, some want to start a revolution and that is just to name a few who are to meet in Calgary to execute the plan.
Frank, Salty and Meg are finding that the wilderness of Canada is getting more crowded by the day. Every time they turn around there are men who want to go unnoticed by the trio, aren’t aware they are there, or want to take something from them. Frank is the most notorious and experienced gun handler of the three, though Meg has shown she can handle herself quite well! Meg originally went to Alaska as a mail order bride, but when that didn’t pan out, she struck out for a warmer climate with Frank and Salty.
Throughout the pages audiences will find themselves cheering for Frank, Meg and Salty to catch up with the troublemakers. The author does a great job of bringing in a surprise character and then slowly revealing why he is even in the same wilderness terrain as them. I enjoyed reading about the Canadian Mounties and the possible budding romance Meg seems to have towards the end of the book.
The Last Gunfighter series has brought many hours of exciting reading to my days. I have one more book to read and then I am done with the series. I hope to see more Frank Morgan in the future. The character does make an appearance in The Loner Series by J. A. Johnstone and in the recent release of The Morgans by William W. Johnstone and J. A. Johnstone. There are many exciting thrillers, westerns, and other books written by these two authors, so visit their website to view the many choices available: https://williamjohnstonebooks.com
