Not sure why the carousel fell out of favor, not even sure I've ever seen a carousel with a gator before. I do wish the story had been what I thought it would be, though, a sort of Velveteen Rabbit or Pinocchio kinda thing, in which Gator would get the post hole through his body healed. ( ) The amusement park where Gator's merry-go-round is at is forgotten about by all the families and children. Gator can't take the silence anymore so he leaves his friends, duck and goldfish, to find the laughter again. But their is a whole left in his heart where the pole used to be. Gator walks and walks through the woods where he comes upon a zoo and where he hears laughter again! A little boy notices Gator crying on a bench and the father recognizes him from the merry-go-round. They haven't forgotten! So Gator brings all the laughter back to the amusement park and his hole in his heart is filled. Fun little story. Gator is a carousel animal that leaves the amusement park he is at to go find all the children that once came to ride him and the other carousel animals. He missed all the children and their laughter. He finds himself at the zoo, and stumbles in to the alligator pin, but decides that those alligators are big and scary; he was glad they were sleeping. Gator is then spotted by an adult who used to ride him as a child. Gator then leads a crowd back to the amusement park to ride the carousel. great illustrations, multicultural.
