( ) Aw, this volume really staggered from the excellence of volumes nine and ten. The author is really bad at plot transitions and this volume suffers for it. The combat was still excellent as always, but the way it changed from the first fight to the second was really awkward. The author has a really terrible habit of suddenly ending a scene out of nowhere and also has a bad habit of just abruptly starting the next with little to no context. It honestly left me going "Wait, how the hell did we get from point A to point B?!" Major spoilers!! [ Also the way Makima was defeated was honestly really disappointing. Like...that's it? Their fight scene was pretty damn good, but the final blow felt too simple. Also, Denji's way of making sure she doesn't revive is to eat her flesh?! I REALLY don't understand the whole "If I consume them, we will become one" thing. I remember reading a manga years ago about a woman who ate her husband's ashes to "become one". Except, that's not how that works at all, but whatever. The ending is very sweet, and I found it super cute. Except I'm so confused about WHY the new Power devil is now living with Denji. I assume because she'll be under his care so they don't create another Makima, but how did they swing this?? Denji is still a teenager himself. Also...shouldn't killing Makima have been the end of the series? Wasn't she technically the "Big Bad"? (hide spoiler)] The way the volume ended made me feel like it was supposed to be the final volume. Apparently, it's only the end of "part one". It makes me nervous because series that drag on way past when they should have ended always end poorly. This series is wild! And it goes out with a bang for the end of the first story arc. It may not necessarily make a lot of sense, but it certainly is cool as hell and even a little touching. I went from disliking the first volumes to being a devoted fan here at the conclusion, so I'm happy that the second arc is supposed to begin publication in Japan next month.
