The stakes were clear after the Change - survive together, or die. Calay and Tess's love has kept them alive four years after the aliens decimated Earth. But when Calay finds herself fighting for her life and Tess missing, she hears death knocking. She only has one choice: she must find Tess.Reluctantly, Calay braves the new nightmares of a ravaged Pacific Northwest, alone. As the lines between good and evil blur, Calay's desperation threatens to spill what's left of her humanity. As she's pulled deeper into the madness of a world that has become kill or be killed, Calay realizes she must deny her feral instincts and resist becoming a monster herself. That means confronting her demons as she stares down the barrel of a terrifying truth: she may actually be forever alone. Time is running out and she knows it. Her only hope is to become who she is truly meant to be and unify with the love of her life once and for all. But, at what cost?To survive, Calay must choose between the unthinkable: give up, or give 'em hell.… (mehr)

Good book with some likeable characters that make some questionable choices! My favorite were the descriptions! The author did a fantastic job, there were so many times I felt like I was right there! Good book! ( )

The Stars in Their Eyes is a dystopian, Sci-Fi, romance. I honestly read the whole thing in one sitting because I kept wanting to see what happened next.
The main character wakes up in a pool of blood and has no idea why.
She is searching for her lost girlfriend, and meets a new love in the search. The fight for survival is tantamount, and pretty rough at times (starvation, loneliness, hiding from enemies, rape...)
Lots of pretty steamy love scenes, so not for kids.
Good twist to the plot which I didn't see! ( )

I enjoyed this book quite a lot, mainly because of how clearly thoughtful it is. At the start, you find out three things: Calay is in love, she is in trouble, and things have gone horribly wrong with the world. The rest of the book takes us through these interlocking stories in a careful and beautiful way. For example, we know from the beginning that Calay is queer, something that I, as a queer reader, always appreciate in stories. The Change wonderfully evokes grand classical sci-fi stories like War of the Worlds. And Calay's search for her love is filled with such thoughtful language on what a relationship should be and why love survives even in the darkest circumstances. Overall, I thought the story was done quite well. It sometimes lacks a little bit of finesse, with some mispellings and grammar errors punctuating an otherwise well-done story. But at the end of the day, I am very grateful to City Owl Press and LibraryThing for allowing me the chance to read this through the Early Reviewers program. It was a wonderful way to spend a few days. ( )

Big thanks to LibraryThing, City Owl Press, and Kristy Gardner for providing me with a free copy of The Stars in Their Eyes.

For fans of The 5th Wave series, I've found your next read!

Calay is just trying to survive the end of the world. Ever since The Others showed up and all hell broke loose on Earth, she has been trying her best to make it out alive with the love of her life Tess.

When she awakens and Tess is no longer with her, she knows she must stop at nothing to find her way back to her. That's what a love like theirs deserves.

Danger lurks around every corner as she tries to find her way back to her. The hardest thing to do in a post-apocalyptic world? Know who to trust. And trusting the wrong people is a strong talent for Calay.

Calay is impulsive, reckless, stubborn, hot-headed, and downright selfish in many ways. But as the story goes on, you slowly see her start to grow into a better, more thoughtful person with great potential leading into the promise of an endearing sequel.

Every time you turn a page, you are faced with more danger, more betrayal, more questions. An incredible action-packed story of a broken girl, just trying to find her way to a place where she belongs. ( )
