This book of poems is a timely contemporary meditation on modern life and the way we move within the world, both the world as defined by nature and the world other people have built and are continuing to forge.

Some of the pieces fell flat for me, while others were wonderfully wrought. There is great potential in this book. ( )

This is a collection of poems in motion: a deeply personal poetic sine wave undulating in crests and troughs between first and second person. The poems are observational, yet contemplative. They speak of the present, while evoking memory. Thomas’s poems are well-crafted and moving, yet they neither lifted me up nor pulled me under. She is writing to a person who isn’t me. ( )

Waves by P.J. Thomas is such an outstanding book of poetry. It incorporates many aspects of life, delving into the beauty and/or pain of everything around us. There were more than a couple of times when I had to pause to think deeply about my perception of life, and where I stood within it. I would recommend this to anyone who loves poetry and/or psychology. It hits both points very expertly!
