More secrets are about to be uncovered, beginning with the arrival of a handsome stranger, and the discovery of bones long buried beneath the river ... "A deliciously disturbing and addictive series that can only be described as literary crack." ~Booktrib Leslie Moore is struggling to get through her last semester at St. Benedict High. Even her relationship with her boyfriend Derek is falling apart. But after receding floodwaters from the Bogue Falaya River expose the bones of a woman, Leslie becomes obsessed with tracking down the killer. Sightings of an apparition haunting The Abbey send Leslie and her friends back to the scene of the horrors from last Halloween, but no one is prepared for what they find. After a stranger--the handsome Luke Cross--arrives in town, another girl goes missing, and the sheriff suspects the newcomer is hiding something. Leslie believes the Devereaux family is connected to everything going wrong in St. Benedict. And she means to uncover the truth, no matter the cost. Not all secrets can be kept silent. Some eventually find their way home. * * * "Pretty Little Liars meets True Detective." ~Laura Quinn, Author of Thicker than Water "A compelling and masterfully written murder mystery series." ~San Francisco Book Review "A rising body count, a dark pact among friends, and a wholly evocative world propel this small-town mystery to epic heights. Highly recommended." ~BestThrillers "For those interested in not just murder mysteries, but the underlying influences that create criminal psyches and victims alike." ~Midwest Book Review "I was left with an eerie feeling I couldn't shake off." ~@Pagesinthebreeze "From the beginning, this book started off strong [and] reminds me somewhat of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder." ~@GavinsBooknook "Murder, family drama, hidden secrets, and supernatural flourishes keep this book as compelling as its predecessor." ~Fearnerd "An equally intense and bone-chilling sequel. ~@AlohaBooksAndBujos "If you're a fan of creepy ghost stories and gothic murder mysteries you need to jump on this series." ~ReadAllAboutIt… (mehr)

Dark and Secretive...........

River of Wrath by Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Astor is a thrilling psychological family drama. The story takes the events forward after Beau's death. More secrets are revealed and some new characters spice up the plot. I would like to praise the characters as they are not like regular ones. They are strong, secretive and amazing. Each have a story in their backyard. The author has done a brilliant work, you would not be able to put down the book. The plot takes some dangerous turns especially with its climax. I am eagerly waiting for the third book.

Definitely 5 stars for the book. Thanks to the authors and Kharidobecho.in for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book. ( )

River of Wrath by Alexandrea and Lucas Astor is the second book in the St.Benedict Series. The book takes place right after the first one ended and has the same characters with a few new ones.

Leslie Moore, whose sister was killed by Beau, a rich kid that was pretty evil. She has problems coming to terms with her sister's death and misses her terribly. Her mother has started drinking and her father hides himself away in his office. She broke up with her boyfriend Derek.

There is a woman's body that has surfaced after the floodwaters have receded on the Bogue Falaya River. Leslie and her friends want to find out who the killer of this woman is, who is she and how long had she been buried? It appears that she had been there a long time. This woman is somehow connected to Gage, Beau's father.

Luke Cross comes to town and the friends are intrigued with him, who is he and why did he show up in St.Benedict? He befriends Leslie and her friends and not long after there is another girl found dead.

It is up to Sheriff Kent Davis to piece everything together but it is challenging. There is a legend surrounding St.Benedict Abbey, which is not only ruins of what it had been. It was burned down the previous Halloween when horrible things happened. The legend is about a woman in white who has a pack of dangerous dogs. Are they real?

Then another girl is killed, who is the killer, looks like there might be a serial killer loose in the town. How are all of the murders connected? Could it be newcomer Luke Cross? That is what Sheriff Davis must figure out, until then the girls are in danger.

I enjoyed the first book in the series and really loved the second one. I have been a fan of Alexandrea Weis's books for a long time and each book I read of hers seems better than the last. I look forward to book 3, River of Ghosts where there are more murders. Hopefully the reader will get the answers that they are wanting.

I give this book 5 stars! ( )

I LOVE THE COVER! After reading the first book, River Of Ashes by Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Astor, there was no way I was going to let the chance to read River Of Wrath go by. I enjoyed the illustrations inside too.

After the first few chapters, it all came back to me. That is a sign of a good book to me, that the author includes a recap to refresh our minds of what has happened in the past.

“Come not within the measure of my wrath.” William Shakespeare

Louisiana Sheriff Kent Davis…I can see him in his Stetson. Kent had moved to Tammany Parrish to get away from all the murders he had to deal with in New Orleans. Looks like they followed him. I am bracing myself for more horrific events, after what happened in River Of Ashes and I wasn’t disappointed. We start with receding flood waters and a dead body. There were already three unsolved murders. The deaths have all taken place around the river and St Benedict, a burned out abbey where the kids used to hang out.

A legend surrounds St Benedict of a lady in white and her wild dogs.

‘When the dogs appear, death is near.’

Leslie Moore’s sister, Dawn, had been murdered. A deal was struck…to make the murderer pay. But, be careful. When you make a deal with the devil, it can come with a very high cost. Would the cost be too much? Would the secrets come out regardless of those involved wanting them to stay hidden? Leslie can’t let it go. Her regrets and guilt haunt her. The murdered are gone, it’s the families that are left trying to cope, unable to move on with their lives, needing answers.

We meet a new character, Luke Cross. What’s up with him? I love when my spidey senses tingle, telling me to beware, to keep my eye on him. Sometimes they are good people, sometimes not. New people rarely come to town, so anyone that does deserves a look see.

One family, more or less, runs the town. The Devereauxs. Their history is cloudy and the entire town is affected by their past, present and future.

Does Leslie have some paranormal ability? Her dreams/nightmares show her the truth. Are they premonitions, or is it her intuition putting the pieces together. Leslie had always been the strong one. Now, she stumbles. She was lost when her other half, her twin Dawn, was murdered. She is growing stronger, preparing herself to face what is to come.

I almost need a playbook to track the players and their motivations.

River of Wrath has plenty of intrigue and suspense, with a gothic feel. Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Aster have some twists and turns to keep us on our toes. At times, my mind was spinning, trying to figure out who did what to who. If you are looking for ONE villain, you will have to look again.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of River Of Wrath by Alexandrea Weis.

The first book in this series left me emotionally shaken for like a week after I finished it. So I have to admit I was glad this one seemed to be going in a slightly different direction. Don't get me wrong it was still an emotional ride, but the narrative choice this time didn't make it as intense to read. I had no desire to put this book down until it was finished. And I don't regret a second of the things I didn't get accomplished because of it.
Naturally the book starts off with another murder, a Jane Doe, whose identity is going to reveal a lot things best kept hidden. Leslie, Taylor, Kelly and Sara have banded together and become friends; each dealing with the grief and trauma of last Halloween in their own way. The bonds they have developed are tested with the arrival of Luke into town; a man with a lot of secrets of his own.
When I say the number of twists and turns in this book had me losing my mind... In retrospect each of them made perfect sense and were so obvious it hurt, but at the time it was like WHAT??!! Oh and to make this book better we have ghosts!!! The creep factor in this book is high and after all those reveals at the end I am going to need the next installment almost immediately in order to survive. ( )

First off, you need to read these books in chronological order. I just wanted to point this out as I have seen a few other readers pick up this book before reading book one. This one picks up after the death of Beau. He was a very evil guy. So, no tears shed for him.

Everyone is reeling from what Beau did. no one more than Leslie. She is trying to put back her life, but it is hard as Beau was not the only one that was evil. Secrets are revealed. Not that I wanted Beau back, but I do have to say that I found the tone of this book to move slower without him. It was more of a slower phycological thriller. However, the last third of the story is where it picked up again. There is that cliffhanger ending. Looking forward to reading book three and learning the whole truth. ( )
