Spur der Nacht: Mercy Thompson 3 - Roman (2008)

I'm really impressed with Patricia Briggs. Her series just seem to be getting better and better. I guess this should be under werewolf/coyote/shapeshifters, but I don't want that many tags at the moment.

Very well done. I think Patty Briggs is just absolutely the master when it comes to this genre, and she showed the depth of her writing skills here. "Iron Kissed" really delves into Fae mythology and secrets, something we got a taste of in the first book of the series, but haven't thoroughly explored. But when Zee is accused of murder, Mercy has to go snooping into things she'd probably best leave alone in order to save him.

I love the vividness of detail Briggs brings to every scene, from the various Fae we meet, to Mercy's descriptions of herself in coyote form. You can taste the salt in the air and feel her terror in turn. Absolutely masterful writing.

There was also a very upsetting event in the book that was handled tastefully and with great emotion to convey the impact of the event without the gory details. So much better than I've seen so many authors do it, and I thought its inclusion was important. ( )

Yeeesh a lot of the subjects in this book about rape and consent have not aged well. I think people had trouble with it at release, and I totally see their point now! ( )

Patricia Briggs is an author I enjoy reading and the Mercy Thompson series is my favorite series by her. I love that she books have so much to them, intrigue, mystery, romance, paranormal and so much more. I find myself invested in both the story and the characters. These books feel both new and fresh but also comfortable to read like a favorite sweatshirt. I highly recommend anything by Patricia Briggs. ( )

3.99 stars. I think these are getting better. The ending had me weeping esp. with the redemption of Ben. ( )
