Fiction. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:From the Real Book Spy, Ryan Steck, comes another riveting Matthew Redd thriller.
On an island off the coast of Spain, Matthew Redd and his FBI fly team surveil a luxury villa in hopes of catching a high-value fugitive. But when Redd leads an unauthorized raid on the villa, he discovers they've been set up, and he is sent home to face the consequences of defying orders.
Meanwhile, Redd's wife, Emily, is on a remote stretch of Montana road driving their sick baby to the doctor when she finds her SUV surrounded by a biker gang intent on harassing her. As the bikers pound her fenders and her infant son screams, Emily fights to keep the SUV on the road . . . and then suddenly the bikers back off, leaving her safe but shaken.
Redd returns home, suspended from his team and certain that he is to blame for Emily's harassment after his run-in with the local biker gang the year before. Fearing that there is more to come, he prepares to defend his family. But Redd soon learns the gang is stronger in numbers than he could've imagined, and there is more behind their vendetta than he could've guessed. As his son's condition worsens and his beloved ranch faces financial ruin, he finds himself fighting a war on multiple frontsâ??one he can't win on his o

Received as part of the Early Reviewer program, but unfortunately for me, this book sat on my bookshelf for 6 months. Finally got to it last night and it was so good I finished it last night.

Matt Redd, the main character is right up there with some of the best thriller heroes. This action packed novel had two threads that the author skillfully brings together in a fantastic conclusion. Redd is dealing with a king simmering feud with a outlaw biker gang while also on the hunt for a bioterrorist who wants to reduce the world’s population through destroying most of the world’s cereal grains.

I read the first book in the series, Fields of Fire some time ago and forgot how good the author and his characters are. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next in series, as well as seeing what the author does as he is taking over the Ted Bell Hawke series following the author’s death.

Really strong new story from the Real Book Spy himself, Ryan Steck. Protagonist Matthew Redd is a very compelling and interesting fellow. The notion of an international cabal looking for world domination is a little tired, but the action is anything but. Overall, the book delivered for me - I'm looking forward to the next one and the Christmas special that will precede it. Very enjoyable book, and written by a guy that has helped so many writers get exposure that this reader really wants him to be a success. ( )

This is the second book of the Matthew Redd series. I did not read the first book but I had no problem reading it.
The book begins with Matthew and agents of the FBI trying to catch a fugitive in the Isle of Majorca off Spain.
Back home in Montana, outlaw bikers are harassing Matthew's wife, Emily, as she is driving their son to the doctor.
It is a thriller which is not my favorite genre but well done. No bad language but the fight scenes were somewhat graphic. Friendship and family are what I liked. The man who raised Matthew was killed but he was so much a part of the book, I could picture the character. Not a Christian book as such but I liked the idea of Matthew reading the Bible.
I was not sure if I wanted to read book 1 or book 3 but after finishing, I decided I will.
I won a complimentary copy of Lethal Range from LibraryThing. I want to thank them as well as the author and publisher. The opinions are my own.
I give the book a 5 star rating. ( )

Matthew Redd had a run in with the Infidels, a biker gang, last year. While the former Elite Marine Rader turned FBI contractor is in Spain hunting down Anton Gage, the Infidels Target his wife, Emily, and son Junior.
Redd returns to Montana suspended for his FBI contract and mad Gage was one step ahead of them and set the up. He finds out what the Infidels did to Emily and Junior and realizes he is fighting on two different fronts (Gage and the Infidels). The new tax assessor decides the agreement Redd made with the former assessor is no longer good and gives him only days to pay the back taxes in full. As things start to heat up, Redd’s wife makes him promise to call in help. He realizes he can’t do it alone or it would end in his death so he calls his fly team with the FBI to request backup. They agree to help him take down the Infidels and Anton Gage.
I really enjoyed Lethal Range and hope there is a third book in the series.

Ryan Steck’s second thriller featuring ex-marine and current FBI fly team contractor, Matthew Redd, opens with the team tracking down Redd’s nemesis and wanted FBI fugitive, Anton Gage, supposedly in hiding off the coast of Spain on the island of Majorca. With visual ID tentative but voice ID positive, Redd assaults the villa without his boss’ authorization and discovers the team was set up and a Gage double was there in place of Gage. The raid was a botched operation. Redd ends up suspended without pay and heads home to his family in Montana.

On the flight home his good friend Mikey calls to alert him that Redd’s wife, Emily, was just terrorized by a ruthless gang of bikers on the highway while driving their ill son to the doctor. Unhurt but shaken she didn’t want Redd to know of the scary encounter. Redd’s past history with the bikers however was the reason for the encounter with Emily and the beginning of numerous personal problems Redd would face throughout Lethal Range.

Redd, who clearly has anger management issues that affect his behavior and judgment, goes after the bikers by himself and in his first encounter is lucky to get out of the altercation with just a bruise or two. He is not so lucky in future altercations that include several descriptive action scenes that affect Redd, his friends, his father, and two fight-to-the death battles with the sociopathic bikers. While Redd’s attempts to take out the bikers are the primary focus of the book the author deftly works our fugitive bioterrorist, Anton Gage, into the storyline by bringing him back to Montana to recreate a deadly chemical spore intended to ruin the entire wheat crop in America’s heartland—over 40 million acres. The hundreds of bikers would be his source to move thousands of drones into position to disperse the chemical. Redd’s final battle, now with his FBI fly team and local law enforcement on hand, with the bikers leads him to Gage and a last second chance to foil his plot—and that of the mysterious group knows as the Twelve who were financing the operation. No doubt the Twelve will be at the heart of the author’s third Matthew Redd thriller.

Finally, the frontmatter of my copy of Lethal Range included a dozen or so blurbs from the thriller genre’s most recognized heavyweight authors. Their enthusuastic quotes, plus those from the publishing industry’s most respected review sources, make Lethal Range a must read book for fans of high octane thrillers. Now I hope my blood pressure will soon be back to normal levels! ( )
