Subtitle: Disorders In The Entertainment Industry Are The Distractors From A Healthy Lifestyle And A Happy Life

2023-08-20: I took a quick crack at this the other day and I think it's not gonna work for me. The first problem is the format, PDF, which is NOT an ebook. PDF is great for magazines or anything with a lot of graphics but for ebooks it sucks. Second problem is the topic, it's very specific to the entertainment industry and I guess I missed that subtitle when I requested it. Third problem is that needed a pass from an English native editor to smooth out some of the wording. It's not bad but it's noticeable.

2023-10-15: At some point I put this on my tablet where the PDF was almost readable and got further. Lots of skimming because the topic doesn't interest me and the language is annoying. If it was interesting I'd give the language more of a pass but as is it's uphill all the way. Still hoping to finish, still wishing people would realize that PDF isn't an ebook format.

While I am super intro celebrity gossip, I find starting the book out with a focus on celebrity falls a little flat. It’s not relatable to the reader to start off with the entertainment industry. Then I went back and looked at the subtitle, and the ToC, and just went… ugh. I was hoping for Mental Awareness Check Up From The Neck Up … Full stop. Nothing else.

But I’ll trudge on into what turns out to be a very muddy book. Is the messaging asking for pardons of entertainers? Please excuse our bad behavior? It’s really tough. Well, I guess it’s still crying no matter if you are in a slum or a McMansion, but it’s a lot easier to cry in a rolls than a bicycle. Is this a self help book for the industry? Nothing is relatable here.
The tools and tricks are not equal across the board. Therapy and counselling which are really great tools to dealing with psychological stress, is often not covered by insurance, or isn’t part of an HMO. Times are changing, but another tip about exercise or eating right, the cost of healthy groceries are often pricing themselves out of the reach of many middle and lower class families. You just can’t afford to eat right. Taking time off — jobs often do not have mental health day PTO, or families don’t have proper caregiving ratios to allow for a day away from family stress. Many tips in here aren’t applicable to the normal person.

The only time I felt this book actually addressed real concern, real mental health struggles was discussing the crew. And that was only done in the context of the entertainment industry. The section directly following this one, was the section on covid. As someone who works in the medical field, it’s just … I could have done without the self congratulatory messaging.

I have no idea what tone this book is. It’s not enjoyable to read, I don’t understand the message, and I’m not sure why this book exists for the general public. It would be just fine if this stayed in Hollywoodland like Scientology or Goop, but now it’s out and it’s about as fun to deal as both previous mentioned things. 1.5 star. ( )
