Love From Two Worlds is a one-way conversation between two lovers from different worlds. These poems are some of my personal experiences that I have had with a lover. One lover is desperately trying to explain the boundless infinite love they have for the other. The other lover just doesn't get it. This book is a perfect example of how you can have love for someone that is unmatched and just isn't from this earth.… (mehr)

NOTE: I received a free eBook copy of this book from LibraryThing's Early Reviewers (August 2023).

The premise of this poetry collection is an interesting one, in that it is a series of missives in verse from a lover to her beloved, who lives on another planet and either cannot return her affections or will not. The poems reveal many deep and often desperate emotions, with the speaker clinging to hope that something (or someone) will eventually give in and respond. Every so often, I found poignant lines that were relatable on either a personal or universal level, and I couldn't resist highlighting those verses. Most of the collection is not so easily digested, however. Dunston seems like a poet who values the esoteric in both the topic matter and construction of her poems, but the juxtaposition of so many different ideas in a single poem renders many lines inscrutable.

For me, the biggest detraction to this collection was its formatting, which appeared botched in my ARC copy. Poems appeared in plain paragraph form, with none of the delineation they were likely supposed to have. There appeared to be many spelling errors, too, although I could usually discern the intended meaning from the context of the verse. I hope to heaven that the publisher fixes this. ( )

I received this book to review as part of the early reviewers program. This book was a change of pace for me as it was all poems. It wasn’t a quick read as you had to understand that “she” was in reference to love and at times it was hard for me to grasp that concept. All in all it was a good read but a little overwhelming at times. ( )

I was given this as an ARC for an honest review but without final formatting or cover, which for a poetry does affect the experience of reading it.
I did my best to read it whilst taking this into account but it makes it difficult to read without the right line, paragraph and page breaks.

This was a very quick read and pleasant enough, but just a little underwhelming. It was what I expected content-wise, lots of sweet and longing pieces written about love, however it was all very much prose or free verse rather than structured/verse poetry. Unfortunately just not very well written nor my personal cup of tea.

Another thing that may be an ARC copy issue only, but there were quite a few errors, typos and missing punctuation that made it incredibly difficult to read. ( )
