A portrayal of five explorers, from childhood to adulthood, and how they came to be explorers. I liked this book mainly for its detailed information given, the illustrations used, and the wide range of individuals depicted in the book. In this book five very different individuals are depicted and explored through the text as giving contributions to history weather in Outer Space or the North Pole. I enjoyed this aspect of the book as well as the illustrations and photographs that followed. These visual aids are wonderful in helping visual learners understand the text more deeply than through the words alone. Lastly, I would like to point out my love for the way the information was presented as well as how much information was presented. In this book it contains information about where each individual grew up as well as events which took place leading to their great discoveries. For instance in the section on Matthew Henson, the illustrator added a map of the North Pole as seen during the time period and real photographs of the explorer. Overall the big idea of the text was to inform the reader of the many different explorers there have been throughout history and their contributions to society.
