Return to the world of Godkiller in this thrilling sequel to the #1 internationally bestselling fantasy debut

When Middren falls to the gods, your kind will be the first to die.

Gods are forbidden in the kingdom of Middrenbut now they are stirring, whispering of war. Godkiller Kissen sacrificed herself to vanquish the fire god Hseth, who murdered her family and endangered her friends. But gods cannot be destroyed so easily, and Hseth's power threatens to reform with even greater strength and a thirst for vengeance. As tensions rise throughout the land, the kingdom needs its Godkiller more than ever.

Still reeling from the loss of Kissen, young noble Inara and her little god of white lies, Skedi, have set out to discover more about the true nature of their bond. As the divide between gods and humans widens, Inara and Skedi will uncover secrets that could determine the fate of the war to come.

Meanwhile, Elogast, no longer a loyal knight of King Arren, has been tasked with killing the man he once called friend. The king vowed to eradicate all gods throughout the land, but has now entered into an unholy pact with the most dangerous of them all. And where his heart once beat, a god now burns. . .

Things are definitely happening in this book! I loved seeing Inara and Skedi grow into their power, and Kissen have to deal with some challenges to her worldview. And seeing Elo in action as a military commander was sure something. I really liked the archives, and all the small gods, and seeing more of Yatho and Telle. And the ending... well, it's definitely the middle book of a trilogy! ( )

“Knowledge can bring pain in place of ignorance, terror in place of hope. Whatever place your strength has come from, it is still yours. You choose what to do with it.”

I fell in love with Godkiller and absolutely could not wait for this one to be released. I can say wholeheartedly that this book did not disappoint in the slightest. I normally am not a fan of second books in a trilogy because it's normally build up to the big action coming in the final book. However, this book DELIEVERED! I felt like something was happening on almost every page! Our group is split up. We start to learn that Hseth might not be as easily destroyed as we thought! We see gods start working together because they are concerned. One thing I liked about this one is how much more we get to learn about Elo, Inara and Skedi.

Elo is on a mission to destroy Arren at all costs and this causes his path to diverge some from Inara's. However, Inara and Skedi spend some time with Kissen's sisters and in the process we get to see the tension in the bond between Inara and Skedi... but most importantly we get to learn more about Inara and what she is. I loved getting to spend more time learning about the characters other than Kissen in this one. Don't get me wrong Kissen is amazing, but it was nice to see Inara start to grow into herself. Elo's struggle with separating the friend from the person who betrayed him is also this intense thing to watch unfold.

This book has plot twist after plot twist! I cannot express the number of times I squealed while reading! I adored it. The twists were just so perfect. I think they work so well to build up the narrative of the story. I loved that we got to see so many more gods in this story. It had a lot of action at the end and still so much was left unsaid that I look forward to seeing how the final installment plays out. So if I was to have one complaint about this book it's that I now have to wait to see how it all ends... I really don't know if I'll make it. ( )

Kissen is a godkiller. She's already killed the god that had been her target for years. Or has she?

There is a lot to love about this book. A lot happens in what is essentially a pretty short amount of time. I love Inara's continued development and Kissen's dedication to doing what is right despite how much she hates what it means. I didn't love the division that Elogast was part of, but the way it set up the ending and the third book makes me excited for the next part in the journey. ( )

Overall I felt that this was an excellent follow up to Godkiller but even though I thoroughly enjoyed the story I felt it was a bit rushed. That really wasn't a huge factor though. I will definitely still recommend the series and I am definitely looking forward to the next book as this one did end on a huge cliffhanger! ( )
