This was different. A novel whose author wrote it, apparently, only to convey his thoughts on life, relationships and death. The soliloquies in this work are staggering. Disguised as letters from attorneys, rambling thoughts and quiet talks are the beliefs of the author laid out in such simple language, you can’t help but be moved.

The plot moved slowly and I never really cared about the murder victims. I was most concerned about the split up of the Scattergood marriage. My first impression of Janice was one of dislike. I branded her a lying, manipulative bitch. Then, as the character of Peter was revealed, I started to understand her actions and attitude. Then, when Peter found that his parents had given her 10 grand, I knew my first impression was right. She was a bitch. A selfish and insecure bitch. Peter was no saint and often didn’t live up to his obligations, but he did love her. I’m glad he didn’t waste his life by shooting her or John Apple. In the end though, his life was pretty effectively ruined.
