Summary: In the story, F is for Flag it starts out by saying how the flag is everywhere. It tells how we all share the same flag and we are one big family. It then tells the history of the flag and when we became a country. The first flag had thirteen stars and thirteen’s stripes because at first we only had thirteen states. Now that we have fifty states we have fifty stars, but still have thirteen stripes to remember the first thirteen states. It tells how we have several names for our countries flag. It then tells the Pledge of Allegiance and why we have this. It then says our Flag is not just a flag it means unity and country and family.

Self-Response: For me, this book actually taught me some useful information that I did not know. I love how this uses the alphabet in it. I love how this book has more than one use for it.

Classroom Extension: This book could be used to teach the alphabet. This book could also be used when teaching about the flag. Not only does this book teach about the flag I also think it could be used to show how our state and country is multicultural and that is okay. I love how this book gives why we say the Pledge of Allegiance. I also think that refer to our flag as a symbol of unity is a great thing the author did.

This book was written for a very young audience as a piece of nonfiction about flags. It didn't get bogged down in too many details, but it kept its focus throughout. It's just the right length for a read aloud and it is a very effective illustration of the meaning and purpose of the American flag. ( )

This is a good book for kindergarteners. I elaborates on the American flag and the meanings behind it. I think it is very important for students to have a grasp on this symbol and know why it is so important. ( )
