Little Genie: Make a Wish is a story about Ali, a 4th grade girl who comes across a magical lava lamp while shopping with her Grandma. Within the lava lamp is a genie that will grant her 3 wishes. She can't tell anyone about the genie though, or else it will be imprisoned once again. She ends up getting a tiger, 10,000 chocolate bars and a visit from her favourite band, though not everything turns out exactly as she plans.
Little Genie: Make a Wish was a cute book for children with an imaginative take on what could happen when a child gets their wishes. The reading level is appropriate for kids, though some of the jokes about the 60s may be lost on children unfamiliar with the decade. The illustrations by David Galver were very stylized towards girls, and the oval or bubble like borders felt as though they little bubbles in a lava lamp. The story is a good example of the age old saying: Be careful what you wish for! With the wishes resetting back to zero by the end, it is understandable that kids would want to go back for more. Little Genie is charming, creative and captivating for it's audience. ( )
