The pacing was great, the characters were engaging and a joy to get to know, and I loved the world building, even the silly parts. The conceit of the author interacting with her characters was fun. This book was fun, just so much fun. I didn't find it to be a can't put down page turner, it was very much a book I could put down and pick up when I was able to read it again without getting lost or having to back track, and to me this is a strength. Life doesn't always let you sit down and read as much or as long as you would like and to have such a joyful book to pick up and escape into when I could was such a gift. I am so hoping Jill Bearup continues to write because I really want to see where she goes from here. ( ) Kellswitch | Apr 26, 2024 | What started as a few YouTube shorts by Jill Bearup playing on a number of literary and cinematic tropes became the Fantasy Heroine story – 4 series of 10 episodes each (all 40 shorts, + extras in a single video: https://youtu.be/eEE_pqix1dQ?si=BI_bl2u6uXd5hp8S). Such was the popularity that the fans demanded a book – and “Just Stab Me Now” is the result. Unsurprisingly, some changes from the videos - but keep in mind this wasn't intended to be a complete novel-length story. But the tale loses nothing in being put down on paper.
