A book about a young boy trying to explain to his mother what happened during an eventful day of school while using colorful language and word choice. "Don't Say That Word" is smart, entertaining fun for both readers and listeners. Its ability to pull the story together in rhyming words all while exhibiting etiquette that every child should be able to know is amusing. It keeps the reader on its toes with quick rhyming. The illustrations are smart, and very clearly describe how the story is being told. From discussing words such as toilet, fart, and booger hat we as adults may find grotesque, would amuse and actually be able to launch a discussion of manners and conversation with a group of 3rd graders who are still learning proper conversation etiquette themselves. All in all, I believe that this book was smartly written and can be enjoyed all across the age spectrum. ( )

This book's humor allows the reader to try and understand what word is not to be said. Michael is simply to tell his mother his adventures during the school day. As soon as Michael is ready to continue finishing his different story's, his mother will interrupt him refraining him from saying potty words. I would read this book to a group of first graders in order to see if they will be able to finish certain phrases at the end of each page. The rhyming scheme in this picture book makes the story somewhat easier to comprehend. ( )

Michael is so excited to tell his mother about his day at school. He tells her all the naughty things his friends did. He started with what his friend Richie did in art class and it only got worse from there. When he tells her she cuts him off because hes going to say a bad word. She tells him "dont say that word!" He talks about burping,boogers, and all kinds of bathroom words. This book is great to read with kids they will think its funny and they may even try to fill in the blanks. Not only is it amusing but it also shows children what not to say. ( )
