The author puts love on a pedestal and worships it. For me personally this sometimes came across pretty intense, such as in the poem "Still Being Consumed" about being consumed by a collarbone bursting out of the skin as though being lifted up to the cosmos!
And you could say some poems are pretty whimsical like "The Clouds" where the author uses a deboned turkey as a simile to compare it to a cloud!
However, most of the poems have a playfulness to them but with heartfelt emotions in each one.
The author covers a varied notion of love which keeps the poems interesting.

The grey almost pencil-sketched illustrations in the book are delightful, but they do get repetitive throughout the book.

I do believe this would make a good gift for someone who wants to feel a deep connection between love and everything in nature that surrounds it. ( )

All the poems were beautifully written and the illustrations were a great match. All poetry collections will have some that really resonate with you. For me there were four: "There is no Salt", "The Body is a Temple","900 Years", and "A Rose and it's Thorns".

I thought the poetry was beautiful and the drawings between each were a nice touch!

There are beautiful black and white illustrations with gray shadings throughout this book. The symmetry of these illustrations make the book visually attractive. However, these illustrations appear more than once and for my taste they are used too often.

The content of the free verse poems suffers from being sentimental nature poetry peppered with New Age images and clichés in spite of very occasionally using traditional spiritual terms such as "Jesus", "temple", "cathedral" and "divine". Ultimately, her sense of the mystical is mostly mother earth worship.

If that is the kind of stuff you like to read then the book might be a fine addition to your library because the book is well made. However, I need more substance from the writing itself. If it is spiritual, I expect the spirituality to be real. I hope the author finds one day the spiritual joy she's seems to want but is clearly missing. ( )
