'Knit & Purl' showcases a jam-packed collection of 250 classic and contemporary stitch patterns to elevate your knitted projects to new heights. A Diamond Web makes a handsome pattern for a rugged scarf; whilst a Space Invaders stitch lends a decorative detail to a jumper. From a basic Seed Stitch to a fanciful Ladder pattern, each stitch features a full-colour photograph in updated yarns and clear and concise instructions. 'The Harmony Guides' have been longstanding references for handcrafters for more than thirty years. C&B is proud to announce that internationally renowned best-selling author and knitting expert Erica Knight will be steering the series on its new journey. 'Knit & Purl', 'Cables & Arans' and 'Lace & Eyelets' are the premier titles of the series with others to include 'Fair Isle & Intarsia', 'Motifs & Alphabets' and 'Edgings'. Whether you're a designer or a knitting enthusiast, the new 'Harmony Guide' series will keep you in "stitches" for years to come. All titles will be fully revised and updated with eye-catching photography and innovative new stitches, but also never forgetting the heritage of the guides, these really will be the only reference titles on any knitter's bookshelves. 1) The font doesn't distinguish between 'I' 'l' and '1'. Please. Make the directions easy to recognize.
In the front is an introduction to knitting and in the back is a list of abbreviations used.
2) The introduction says how important it is to be able to read charts. It does not go on to say how to do it, nor does the book provide any charts.
3) The abbreviations used are not consistant. You sometimes have to guess what is meant because the pattern you are trying out uses different abbreviations from those listed in the back of the book.
4) And once you know what the abbreviation means, there is no explanation of how to do it. K1B means Knit one below. The introduction only tells how to knit, not what 'knitting below' means.
5) It would be much better if there were photos of both front and back. I often prefered the look of the 'back' . Also occaisionally the wrong side was pictured. (Not of the ones where I prefered the back.) ( )
