( ) This biography tells the story of Michael Collins, who traveled to space at the same time as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Although he worked for NASA, he was in a separate spacecraft that went to the far side of the moon and he never got to step foot on the moon. The layout of this book is visually appealing and adds interest to the story. It is written in a scrapbook style, with journal entries written from space in Collins's handwriting, photographs, diagrams, and tables. While in space, Collins circled the moon 14 times and had 48 minutes each time he circled the moon that he was out of radio communication. His life and experience with space travel is well-documented in this intriguing book. This biography was a fascinating read that taught me about aspects of life in space that I had not considered. After reading it, the first thing I wanted to do was read more about Michael Collins and the Apollo 11 mission. Students will love the format of this book, with a limited body of text and plenty of visuals to support and teach more about space exploration. This is the astronaut you don't hear as much about - Michael Collins who stayed in the capsule during the moon walk & circled around the dark side of the moon multiple times while the other Apollo 11 astronauts made the moon landing. For nearly an hour of each rotation he would be completely cut off from his fellow astronauts and from ground control back on earth. He captures some of this in the journal entries & notes that make up this book. FASCINATING. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
