I think it is important for students to know where certain kinds of food came from. Written in rhyme, this book introduces foods that people eat from different places all over the United States as well as all over the World. It starts off on the East Coast and moves throughout the country then up to Canada and all over the globe. This book is good to have in the classroom cause it can show children that not only different countries eat different food but also places all over the United States eat different foods as well. Difficult read for younger students because of the different pronunciations of cities and countries. But is a great learning tool for students who are learning about different places around the world. It is a short introduction to what people and the background looks like there and the types of food that may be seen there. Students can relate if they have eaten a food from the book before. This was a great book for a few different reasons. One being that each page of the book covers a different region of the world, and there is a pattern of rhyming, such as when the author writes, “Benjy, on a boardwalk stroll, has a hotdog on a roll.” This little boy was from New York. In another section the author writes, “Amma savors beans and rice-cooked with fish, they’re twice as nice,” and this little girl is from Ghana. These two examples show how the author covers different parts of the world, while introducing foods eaten in that region. I also like this book because the author provides a map in the back numbering the regions of the world in which the children, mentioned in the book are from, such as #1 relates to Doug who lives in Massachusetts. I liked this feature because it allows the reader to better understand the parts of the world the children are from. I also like how the author provides recipes, such as the recipe for hummus, because this gives me more insight on different cultures, while also allowing me to experience them if I so choose to make the recipe.. The main purpose of this book is for reader to be introduced to different regions of the world, while also seeing commonalities between themselves and these different places. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book because of its consideration of all different ways people eat as well as the extra textual features included in the book. First, the author considered all the different types of lifestyles when it comes to eating habits. For example, the author includes a vegetarian character, which is a group of people I would likely not have considered until they were included in the story. Also, I enjoyed this book because it included a map in the back of the book to show the reader where all the cities mentioned are located as well as recipes for some of the food mention in the story. I think these are important features that really add to the educational merit of this story. The big idea in this story is that people all over the world have different traditions when it comes to eating lunch and it is important to learn about and appreciates everyone’s traditions. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
