I love how the auther sets it up as a game to see if you can guess correctly. This format keeps the reader engaged and interested in what the author has to say. This cute book begins with an introduction explaining how cats were introduced into our world as pets (they were acquired as pets in the old world because they chased mice away from crops; they then traveled to the New World with their new owners.) Then, the cat lover is invited to read the cat facts that will be presented in the book, guess as to whether they are true or false, and then give him/herself a score of Purrfect or Nearly Purrfect. The following pages each present a 'cat fact' (something commonly thought to be true about cats), state whether or not it is true, and then go on to explain why or why not. I was interested to find out, for example, that cats can 'sense' an earthquake coming - they may not understand what is happening, but they may hear a sound and sense that something is off. Also, I learned that when my cat is twitching in his sleep, he actually is probably dreaming! We also learn about cats' supposed nine lives - basically, they just land on their feet a lot and avoid danger that other animals might not avoid, so it just seems like they have nine lives!
