She's a little too...tame? to be believable when she flares up, and a little too wild to be convincing when she goes along with what she's told to do - but on the other hand, she's not given a lot of options in most cases. Mostly because when she does have options she chooses some rather silly ones - going back to the house...sheesh. And her flareups are all in defense of her son (and it's a very good thing for him that she _wasn't_ left in sole charge of him for very long - poor kid). The kidnapping is scary and the solution is wonderful - both the boy's actions and the reason they worked. The villain got his comeuppance properly, with nothing saved for the future (whew). This is the first of a series, and I'll be looking for the rest. I like some of Gracie's stuff, and some drives me nuts; it's just a matter of try each and find out. Regency romance author Anne Gracie is one of my guilty pleasures. Her stories are sweet yet with enough spice to keep my more prurient tendencies happy. I know there will be a happy ending, none of the 'good guys' will die, and the 'bad guys' will always get their just desserts. What I think we all wish 'real life' could be. Her newest series is the story of the 'Devil Riders', four soldiers trying to readjust to civilian life. Our first hero is Gabriel who is restless and becoming bored with civilian life until he rescues a beautiful woman and young child. Suddenly his life is filled with action, confusion, and desire. Callie is a princess in hiding trying to save the life of her son, the heir. Men have always disappointed Callie...until she's rescued, again and again, by a man who seems to want nothing more than, well, Callie! This is Cinderella and the Three Musketeers in one spicy story. What's not to love? While this book is fun to read, it's also a little bit annoying and silly. I don't really like Callie - she's annoying, conceited, and not really likable in any way at all. Which makes it hard to understand exactly why Gabriel falls for her so hard. And the princess thing is also kind of silly as well. Actually, the whole plot is rather silly, but if you can suspend disbelief long enough, this book is tolerably enjoyable. Zeige 4 von 4 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
