A good way to visit Istanbul during these uncertain times. Also full of historic tidbits of the area and its inhabitants. The story line didn't grab me . ( )

I think I enjoyed this book more than the first, but both were pleasing reads. A considerable part of that enjoyment comes from the author's ability to paint an accurate and engaging picture of the life and times of 1839 Istanbul - historic fiction done well. ( )

The sultan is dying. A French archaeologist comes to Istanbul in search of relics. Clues seem to crop up everywhere. Yashim, friend of the Valide sultan and the Polish ambassador gets involved by various means. A missing man, a horribly mangled corpse and a beautiful woman. The history of the Ottomans, Greeks and Albanians float through the book. Enjoy! ( )
