Mega wrote a hard SF novel and a small publisher accepted it but then changed the name to Bimbos of the Death Sun. He's invited to be a guest author at a local Con but has no idea what to expect. There are Trekkers, Star Wars fans, nerds of every description, and fantasy gamers dressed as their favorite characters everywhere he looks. And then his fellow guest author, the writer hated by almost everyone even though his hero is beloved by a host of fans, is found murdered. The mystery wasn't particularly hard to solve but Jay's introduction to fandom was quite interesting. I'll be reading Jay's second adventure later this year (Zombies) and may investigate some of McCrumb's other novels. Bimbos- I would place this with cosy mysteries in that it is a light and easy read. I thought basing it in a Sci-Fi COnvention was a novel place for e murder and I did like the wat the murderer was caught. Zombies- Better than the first Story, it follows the same formula as "Bimbos". Our murdered person appears and gets killed very quickly and in the second half of the book. Still useing the Sci-fi fandom as the setting, this time our hero is invited to a renunion of old sci-fi writers, by his work collegue, to retrieve a time capsule when the lake it is under is drained.
