The Cremation of Sam McGee is one of my favorites. Robert Service had a gift of telling a story about the cold cold North. I usually reread every other year & reacquaint myself. ( )

Margaret Atwood introduced me to Robert Service in an essay she wrote, and I'm so glad I tried him because I have discovered that I love a good ballad. ( )

This book is a collection of poems by Robert Service from the early 1900s about life in the Yukon. The book includes poems such as "The Creation of Sam McGee" and "Dangerous Dan McGrew." The poems can be a little salty for young children but the word choice by the author beautifully portrays the Gold rush experience in the Yukon Territories and the frigid weather.

The book contains photos of the prospectors, the gold rush women, the dog teams and the communities at the time. This book accurately represents life in the time of the Gold rush.

A pleasant collection of poems. Written in the late part of the 19th and the early part of the 20th century these simple poems are glimpses of ordinary and not so ordinary lives and philosophies from 3 - 4 generations ago. ( )
