Hij vertelt zonder te interpreteren. Dat maakt dat hij keert met de wind. Over de relatie tussen Jane en Paul doet hij de meest tegenstrijdige uitspraken. Hun huwelijk is al mislukt nog voor het begonnen is, hoewel ze toch levenslang bij elkaar blijven en - vooral - voor elkaar zorgen. S.L. schept mysteries in plaats van helderheid.
