The Apocalypse (1st-2nd century, C.E.), also known as Revelations, is attributed to John of Patmos. A succession of angels reveals that God will intervene decisively in the present evil age and reward his long-suffering elect. Reflecting the Romans' oppression of Christians and Jews, and influenced by the apocalyptic writings of the Old Testament's Book of Daniel, The Apocalypse is the great epic poetic work of the New Testament. As the translator Willis Barnstone puts it, "Like the Book of Job, the Apocalypse is an extended poem, as densely poetic as Blake's Jerusalem, Whitman's Leaves of Grass, or Gerard Manley Hopkins's The Wreck of the Deutschland. Notre tâche est immense. Essayons de ne pas être hypnotisés par la multitude de prophètes de malheur et de penseurs apocalyptiques de tout genre, qui prédisent la chute de l’Occident et la disparition de notre monde.
D’ailleurs le mot « Apocalypse » ne veut pas dire « fin » ou « destruction », mais « Révélation ». Nous avons la chance d’avoir devant nos yeux, ici et maintenant, une extraordinaire Révélation qui peut nous permettre d’accéder à la Vie et au Sens. Je suggère de lire, en ces temps difficiles, l’extraordinaire livre de Paule Amblard Saint Jean - L’Apocalypse, illustrée par la tapisserie d’Angers. Paule Amblard nous offre une interprétation cohérente de L’Apocalypse de Jean par la nécessité de l’évolution spirituelle de l’homme. Les fléaux épouvantables qui traversent le texte de L’Apocalypse sont, en vérité, les tourments de l’âme humaine séparée de ce qui la fonde.
