Magical in every sense, this novel explores the ideas of Richard Dadd in a world of poetic vision. This is a fairy story without sentimentality or self-deprecation. It weaves ancient allegories with nineteenth century sensibilities and 21st century experience. Had I first seen this in a shop I would have passed it over because the print finishing is so shoddy. The inconstant margins and the mean typography scream of self-publishing (which is not to decry all such work but I know the odds). That an established publishing house, no matter how small, released a book in this state disappoints me and I hope that future works will be published by someone who cares more for quality. It begins with a severed finger and with a gift in Winter. Not realisingthat she is being courted by a faery suitor, The Bride enters the cold andsparkling world of the Prince of Spiders. She takes the severed finger, unawarethat such gifts carry consequences, and finds herself trapped. The Prince ofSpiders rules this land of dreams, lost in glittering snow. As a Winter King, heshould end his reign by dying at the coming of Spring. Until now he has delayedthis by offering the blood of artists and poets to the ancient spirits of theland, eeking out his season long beyond its time. But now he has a more daringplan in his heart... a plan that is thwarted by the disappearance of his humanbride. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
