This modern fantasy book is about a wizard who was trying to organize his magic spells. He discovers that one bottle had a label missing. When a little mouse - who is tired of being a mouse - comes looking for a spell to change him into something else, the wizard gives him the bottle without a label. The mouse then tries to decide how he wants to change, but each thing he thinks of also has a flaw. Finally, he decides that being a mouse is the best thing he can be. Although he never used it, the potion changed him after all - from an unhappy mouse to a happy one.

This was an enjoyable book for me and one that my children enjoyed hearing over ad over. I especially like that it teaches the lesson that it's best just being yourself. Also, the characters are well liked by children.

As an extension, You could ask the children if they have ever wanted to be something or someone different and why. The children could talk about one thing that makes them unique and ways that being themselves is special. Then, they could draw a picture of themselves showing those qualities.

While sorting his bottles of magic spells, a wizard is interrupted by a mouse asking to be turned into something else as he's tired of being a mouse. The wizard hands him an unlabelled bottle. The mouse then goes home and starts to wonder what it might turn him into and the pros and cons of each. He comes to the conclusion that he's happy being who he is and returns to tell the wizard his spell worked -- he's changed. The wizard is overjoyed at the success and promptly removes all the labels from his spell bottles. So whenever anyone is unhappy with their lot, they only have to get a magic spell from the wizard -- and not open it. ( )
