I bought this book for a friend who's having her first baby, since it's one of my friend's favorite childhood books. I love good picture books, and this one was sweet and clever. My little sister loved it so much that we bought another copy for ourselves.

I had never heard of it till now, but I just realized that I read other books by this author in my own childhood, like the Frog and Toad books - which I read many times but didn't enjoy very much. Another book I read by this author was much too strange. But this one was lovely! ( )

I have very strong memories attached to this book, but they are curiously less that entirely warm. The drawings of imaginary birds made up of household objects have a slightly creepy feeling that I remember finding a little uncomfortable. Yet I know I had the book for years and read it over and over again. Take from that what you will. I evidently did. ( )

As a young child this was one of my favorite books. I always got a good laugh out of it. ( )
