I thought the book “Bunny Wishes: A Winter’s Tale” was another great book for the holidays. The first reason that I enjoyed the book was because of the fun format of the text. For instance, when the author was writing about the wind, the words were written as if they were swirling around the page. And when she was writing about snow, the words looked as if they were falling down the page. The author also used speech bubbles for some of the dialogue and large font to emphasize certain words. This format is a fun change of pace from a traditional story, and would be very exciting to look at for young children. Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed was the illustrations. The illustrations had a lot going on on every page, and also filled the entire page. These illustrations are very engaging and enhance the book’s appeal. The author uses descriptive language such as “twinkling stars”, “hopeful bunnies”, “snowy hill” and “comfy burrow” to convey the light and joyful mood of the story. The main idea of the book is that love and family is the best gift you can get. ( ) The book doesn't mention the word "Christmas". Two bunny friends each make a wish list and put it on a hollow log. The wind blows the lists onto some baby mice who tear them up and play with them. The mouse parents realize what has happened and all the mice work hard. The bunnies wake up to an evergreen tree decorated with words and letters from their original lists. "Heaps of love to keep you warm. Some one who always sees the best in you. A paw to hold. Cozy ears, snuggles and hugs. Lots and lots of love for you for ever." Despite the amusement factor of celebrating Christmas without mentioning Christ (Harry Potter books did the same although I think they at least mentioned the word Christmas), this is one of best Christmas books for kids we have: It not just the loot you get that makes you happy and its fun to work hard to make others happy.
