This one is a short compilation of some of his column writings for The Philadelphia Enquirer. He talks about life, family and of course, animals. There´s a little bit of everything in here: something that will make you laugh out loud, something that will make you cry, something that will leave you with an open mouth in surprise... All in all a good, quick and easy read. The Phildelphia Inquirer compiled a collection of their most appreciated articles by John Grogan and had that published as this book. Interestingly, the copyright page of this book notes that all rights to this book go to the newspaper, not to the author. My feeling, after beginning this book, was that the newpaper was just trying to capitalize on the resounding success of the bestseller Marley and Me, the debut book by John Grogan. I almost did not finish this book. This book’s cover, which features a dog in a bathtub and refers to Marley and Me, is misleading because most of the newpaper articles are not about animals (or even dogs) at all. I really like John Grogan’s writing and have thoroughly enjoyed his books Marley and Me and A Long Way Home. However, I don’t think that this collection works well for a book. These pieces are too small and really do belong in a newpaper instead of a book. Unlike a book of essays which discusses various topics in depth, these pieces are so small that, by the time I’d read half of the book, I’d forgotten what I’d read in the beginning of the book. I forced myself to finish it, but, by the time I did so, I’d forgotten what the first half of the book was about. My recommendation? Stick to John Grogan’s books or read his articles in the newspaper. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
