I personally didn’t like this story, not because it was written poorly, but because I don’t really like stories which setting is during the early 1900s where blacks were treated inhumanely. It’s quite heartbreaking to read how much they have to go through in history. Anyways, even though I as a reader could assume what happens, I’m still confused, more than in “Hills like White Elephants.” One of the questions I had was when we discussed the point of view changes. That was something I overlooked and when mentioned I had the same question as everyone else. Maybe Faulkner didn’t want the readers to get too immersed on one particular scene and try to get a feel of what else is happening at the same time. Also, questions about the characters themselves arose such as why does the barber hit Mayes when before he was defending him in the barbershop? Was he so caught up in the hateful emotions the others were showing or did he succumb to peer pressure? Or Miss Mini Cooper. What happens to her; does she even feel guilty at the murder that originated from her? This story just creates more questions and not enough answers. It makes me happy but at the same time it doesn’t because I can’t reach a conclusion without having some guidance where to go. However, this has made me quite interested in the other short stories out there that are probably going to both frustrate and intrigue me, so it’s a good thing. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
