New York Times bestselling author Lynn Kurland captures the haunting beauty of England--past and present--and the exquisite tenderness of timeless love in this novel in the MacLeod series... In a bleak, landlocked keep on the English moors, Iolanthe MacLeod dreams of the sea--and of a darkly handsome man to come rescue her. Centuries have passed and she feels she has waited in vain...until now. Thomas McKinnon is used to attaining impossible heights, both in business and in the mountains he loves. But when the chance to restore a twelfth century castle comes his way, he gamely takes hammer in hand and crosses the Atlantic, expecting to find nothing more interesting inside his new home than cobwebs and weeds. But in that ancient, crumbling castle, the fierce, restless spirit of a medieval Scottish woman lives on--a woman so haunting that he would do anything, go anywhere, risk everything to make her his forever...… (mehr)

Another great story with wonderful characters that pull you in and do not let go until the very end. ( )

I love Kurland. I did not love My Heart Stood Still and has been the least enjoyable out of the many books of hers that I have read. It had a promising beginning but got stuck shortly after the hero and heroine met and as he was remodeling the castle she was haunting. It also really bothered me that the ghosts in this story could do just about anything a 'live' person could do. This included traveling to other cities, trying on (non-ghost)clothing from modern day, keeping track of time every day, morning til night, etc. The story just dragged on and on for about 150 pages and I did start to skim. MHSS did pick up when Thomas met Jamie and went back in time to rescue Iolanthe from being killed. Sorry to say that I felt most of the book was about a 1 star and the last third about 3 or 3 plus to average around a 2/5 stars. I am still a big fan of Ms. Kurland and this won't discourage me from reading on. ( )

Iolanthe MacLeod was betrayed and murdered, and for centuries her ghost haunts the keep where she was killed. Then Thomas MacLeod McKinnon buys the keep, on a strange instinct, and arrives to renovate it. He soon makes the acquaintance of the matchmaking ghosts, Ambrose. Hugh, and Fulbert, who live in the inn owned by his sister, Megan. Thomas and Iolanthe do fall in love, but have the obstacle of her being a ghost. With the help of his distant relatives, Alex and Margaret Smith ("The Very Thought of You", he learns of the possibility of traveling back in time and preventing her death. But he also must convince her to trust him and travel back to his own time with him. He does, but it takes a while for her to "remember" her life as a ghost and how she fell in love with him.
A creative, lovely story. ( )
