It is also pretty well written. The book is basically the story of the construction of the Death Star. It is divided in two parts: the construction and then the shakedown cruise, which leads to the events in the first Star Wars film most people have seen by now. I usually dislike books where I know the ending beforehand, but this book was actually interesting and engaging. The first part where the station is constructed and the characters are introduced is actually pretty good. Different people from diverse backgrounds come together in constructing the Death Star. In the second part, we see some cameos from characters we knew in the film, but we get a different point of view, and that makes the book a good read as well. The book features the character of Doctor Divini, which regular readers of Star Wars novels may recognize from the Medstar Duology (by the way, I read those two book, and they are on my list). Another character is a librarian, which for a librarian as me, was kind of cool too. Overall, this was a good and pleasant read. ties in characters from Medstar. Basically about the 1st Deathstar from about halfway through its construction to its destruction. Follows 4 different sets of characters. They escape in the end because they can't countenance working for something that destroys millions and billions of lives just to make a point. A very interesting look at the flow and ebb of life on the Death Star. I enjoyed this book it expanded alot of backstory about the deathstar and the empires building of it. Even though it is not canon it is still worth the read i shows such a new angle of things. While its quite often we get books from an imperial perspective most are imperial loyalists like ciena, Tarkin, or Thrawn. This book really opens up and shows imperials who are either forced to be there or realise the empire isnt so great. My personal favorite character was Villian dance. while t is a great book it gets held down at points by some of the slower stories. In the new canon Tarkin and lost stars took the best parts of this novel. All in all a great read which realy helps to show imperial perspective like Vil who goes from a die hard leuitenant to apperantly fleeing rebel. He really is a character i want to see recanonized. I also quite enjoyed the gunner who delayed firing the canon and let luke blow it up ( or was it babbajo?) however the medical drama part bored me mosly because i dislike the genre but hey its an anthology theres plenty of other stories in it to read. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

I was hoping for a political thriller about the creation of the galaxy's most horrific invention, and instead I got a street-level-view of said invention's launch and demise. But it's decent, and once the novel hit the halfway point, it picked up a lot of steam carrying through to the end, which I enjoy as a reader. ( )
